Summit Healthcare Helps Cayuga Medical Center Meet New York State’s Requirements for Continuity of Care Document Integration
Braintree, Mass., November 1, 2017 – Summit Healthcare today announced their partnership with Cayuga Medical Center to assist them with their Continuity of Care Document (CCD) integration through the use of Summit Exchange. The Summit Exchange platform is Summit Healthcare’s solution for solving integration challenges in a more powerful and efficient way, streamlining patient care, and helping organizations meet interoperability and regulatory objectives.
Summit Exchange ensures that CCD’s are exchanged in a timely manner between the hospital and clinics, physicians’ offices, rehabilitation centers, and other entities that comprise a community health network. The software has an integrated HISP in order to ensure secure connectivity and direct messaging abilities. Other key features include a built-in API for extendibility in connectivity and processing, a robust mapper for interface customization, a scalable, deployment architecture for future integration initiatives, all while supporting the latest interoperability standards and protocols (SMTP, TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, SOAP-XDR, XDM, XDS, and XCA).
Cayuga Medical Center is a not-for-profit, acute-care medical center in New York bringing state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services to the residents of Tompkins, Cortland, Seneca, and Tioga counties. Already a long-standing customer since 2009, they chose to expand their interoperability platform with Summit Healthcare to help them reach their bi-directional CCD integration goals.

Cayuga will be using Summit Exchange for CCD integration with both Provide & Register (ITI 8, ITI 41) and the Query Response protocols for unsolicited, bi-directional exchange. Summit Exchange will provide an unsolicited push of CCD’s to Relay Health and HealtheConnections, Cayuga Medical Center’s HIE’s, upon patient discharge. This transfer of information will not only support more informed decision making, follow-up, and patient outcomes, it will help meet New York State’s requirements for CCD integration.
New York State mandates require that additional bi-directional interoperability with the state HIE’s be in place by March 2018. New York Healthcare facilities must also connect to the Statewide Health Information Network of NY (SHIN-NY) through a Qualified Entity and allow for private and secure bi-directional access to patient information by other qualified participants.
